Alder Inn

Such a great stay. The room was big, clean, very reasonable for the price! The location was also perfect for walking to local cafes or the beach, as well as a quick drive to Heavenly for a day of snow activities. Sam was super responsive and easy to get a hold of. Really appreciated the late checkout when requested. Definitely will come back!

An unexpected gem! Comfortable, quiet, and amazing staff. We happened to catch a small deal, but even still, Alder Inn was totally affordable for what we got and the location. Lodging can be hit or miss, with some spots showing wear and tear from a stream of snow chasers. Alder Inn clearly takes care of its property. The check in was so simple and seamless, and the staff were helpful and prompt in their communication. Definitely staying here next time.

Amazing hotel! The room was super comfortable and clean, with fresh sheets and a cozy bed. Great AC and shower (those things matter to me!). They also have fun stuff like giant chess, Connect Four, cornhole, etc. Even though it’s self check-in, the hosts were super helpful and always quick to respond. There’s parking, and it’s close to everything — restaurants, the lake, you can walk or grab a scooter. I loved it and totally recommend!

Excellent location in South Lake Tahoe and you really won’t find a better price anywhere else. Safe, quiet, clean, and cozy stay. The shower head was quite low if you are taller than average and the beds could have been more comfortable (so understand what an Inn is compared to a luxury hotel) but we’d still stay again.

My review is of course, overall gonna be pretty glowing, but I do wanna say that if you’re driving an electric car, this location does not offer any charging stations and the ones that are nearby, the blink chargers in the Whole Foods parking lot don’t seem to be working as of October 2025. They will charge you but your charge light indicating that is receiving power from the utility never illuminates. So blink gets money and you get nothing in return. with this failure, it’d be nice to see hotels, offering ChargePoint or similar reliable level two chargers that could be left plugged in overnight. …and Queue the superlatives! Location is top notch and just a short walk to the harbor and the beach where you can rent kayaks, etc. If you go to the other direction, uphill, you have heavenly resort which offers world class, snowboarding, and ski skiing. About two minute walk is some pretty wonderful Himalayan cuisine at Shangri-La Restaurant! There is a Thai food place as well as sushi (Yugen Cuisine). A little further afield I have to recommend the Maria’s Mexican restaurant, specials at Tipsy Putt& Freshies Ohana on South Lake Tahoe Boulevard. Transportation: it’s easy to get around town even if your car is charging They have bird/ Lyft scooters all over the place just a few minutes walk from Alder Inn that you can rent like $.50 a minute. that’ll get you around on the bike paths here. I think my favorite part about alder Inn is that they have a fully fenced area where you can safely let your service animal or your traveling pet companion off leash to run around and sniff. The streets next to Alter in our nice although probably want to keep the little squirt on leash out there because of cars. Pro tip if you have booked your stay through Booking.com or one of these other places that inserts themselves, you can negotiate additional time using text message to extend your stay and most likely it’s gonna be a way cheaper rate. It’s inexpensive because they are not staffing people here in town aside from the staff that clean the rooms and keep the premises super spiffy. Very clever and very affordable. All in all: two thumbs up

Close to food and drinks? Yes. Close to good coffee? Yes. Close to the ski resort? Yes. Clean and cute and with great staff? Also yes! Sam and his team always go above and beyond for their guests and I love staying at their properties. Would absolutely recommend for anyone looking for a great spot to stay in South Lake! This is my second time staying at Alder Inn, and I adore this cute place. So close to restaurants and grocery stores, the gondola, the lake… mountain biking trails too! Very clean and comfy rooms both times, with very comfy beds. The only time I had an issue was my downstairs neighbor being very inconsiderate very late into the night, being very loud and bouncing a ball against the wall or something. But management took care of it once they were notified of the issue. The issue never came up again. They’re also very responsive to texts, very helpful with questions as well. I will be returning again and again!

Photos on line don’t show the actual outside condition of the place. Needs some TLC and they seem to be trying to address that. The check in procedure was all virtual which was new to us and I did not preregister so needed to do that sitting in the little dark office. Got the code to the room and eventually got in but felt very impersonal. Room on second floor up a little staircase that might be problem in the winter. Felt a little shaky to me now in September. Room is updated and nicely decorated. No heat until later in October. We were given a space heater however. It will be 42 tonight. Nice bathroom and there are electric plugs in the room which was very nice. Usually not many or enough. Keurig coffee in room. Pricey but this is Tahoe. Not sure I would stay here again.
